Display Measurement - the right system for any challenge

The spectrum of display technologies ranges from small, illuminated panel graphics, to flat panel displays and on to large LED advertising. Whether in the car or airplane, in a mobile telephone or MP3 player, on an LCD display or in a football stadium, we now see Display applications in every walk of life. The market for these applications is developing rapidly, and so too is the associated technology. The dramatic progression of this technology in turn requires sophisticated measurement instrumentation both in R&D and in manufacturing.

Within this rich world of applications, Instrument Systems specializes in the requirements for displays in the automotive and aerospace industries. We offer the widest range of test and measurement systems available for high-end multi-function displays and panel graphics. Our expertise in this field has established Instrument Systems as the market leader for many years. Consequently, all major automotive manufacturers and tier 1 component suppliers successfully employ our instrumentation.

Instrument Systems offers two separate measurement technologies for characterizing the optical parameters of displays like luminance, chromaticity values and contrast ratio:

  • Systems for Display Tests based on a combination of spectrometer and imaging optics. These systems measure a single spot on the display and characteristically result in very high measurement accuracy.
  • Imaging Photometers and Colorimeters can alternatively capture the entire display in a single measurement, although with specific compromises in the measurement accuracy.

Both technologies can be used with the 5-axis positioning test system DTS500 in order to automate measurement of both homogeneity and angle-dependent optical properties as according to the VESA Standard.

Special high-end variants of the display test systems DTS140 and DTS320 series of spectroradiometers additionally allow testing of NVIS compatible displays and panel graphics according to MIL-L-85762A and MIL-STD-3009, respectively. For this specific application Instrument Systems is a qualified measurement system supplier to major aviation manufacturers and additionally to the armed forces like US Air Force and US Navy.
